Colonel Tye - Fighting for Freedom
The Colonel-Tye - Fighting for Freedom is a modern, spatial computing experience using Apple Vision Pro Goggles to tell the tale of Cornelius Titus (eponymously named “Colonel Tye”) who is described as renegade, runaway slave, traitor, guerilla leader, black loyalist, and African American Freedom Fighter, and his story during the Revolutionary War at Sandy Hook. Explore primary source historical documents throughout the experience as you experience the difficult choices Tye and others like him had to make for freedom.
The experience takes approximately 25 minutes for two users at at time on a first-come, first serve basis. The experience is free and may also be viewed at the house on a screen. Goggle users must be a minimum of 13 years old. The experience will be accessible to the public every Saturday and Sunday (except July 4 - 5) between May 2, 2026 and July 25, 2026 at the historic Taylor-Butler House in Middletown between 1pm - 4pm. For more info, contact info@sandyhooknj.org.

Great Storms of the Jersey Shore
CANCELED
Referring to coastal storm protection efforts, oceanographers like to muse “The ocean always
bats last.”
In the 1800’s, local fishermen of Sea Bright warned builders to respect the protective
sand dunes that once blocked the view of new homes along the beach. And old-timers on
Staten Island used to caution newcomers: “Don’t build East of Hylan Boulevard” (The longest
street on the island.)
Join us to revisit some legendary storms of our coast, how they form, and their impacts on ways
we prepare for the next “BIG ONE” and what we can expect in the future.
