The Signal and the Shot: A Lifesaving Invention Challenge
Step into the shoes of two real-life heroes and inventors, Martha Coston and David Lyle, right here at Sandy Hook, where their lifesaving innovations were tested in the 1870s.
In this hands-on challenge, children ages 8–15 (accompanied by an adult) become inventors for the day. They’ll experiment with coded light signals and engineer a way to launch a rescue line to a ship in distress using an air-powered cannon.
Discover the spirit of invention, teamwork, and hope that once saved lives along our shores!
No registration necessary. There will be 2 sessions for this event, please attend one. Stop by the Lifesaving Station at 2pm OR 3pm to participate.
